Facebook, now called Meta, has been scraping all public posts of Facebook and Instagram since 2007 to train their AIs.
Back in June, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed plans to do this, as if it were a new initiative.

AI Tech Bros like to say that “all public content on the Internet is free to use” but that’s just not how it is or should be. Usage for AI training should – and must – always be opt-in and not opt-out, and just because I publish something that is freely accessible doesn’t mean it can be used freely by anybody for their product.
This whole AI copyright shit is so fucked up, and as somebody who has been publishing on the internet for YEARS I’m just hella mad.
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if they used WhatsApp data as well.
